Meet Amber

Welcome!

My name is Amber (she/her), and I’m glad you’re here.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Seminary of the Southwest.

I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-Associate) in Texas and practice under the supervision of Lacie Hamilton, LPC-S.

As a therapist and longtime therapy recipient myself, I come to this work with deep reverence for the healing process and the capacity for healing each person brings into the therapy room. My own unfolding journey as a neurodivergent, queer woman with lived experience of complex trauma is what draws me to this work and deeply informs my practice.

I’m a kinda witchy, highly sensitive introvert who needs plenty of alone time and time in nature to recharge. When I’m not working, you can usually find me with my little dog, Sage, or my husband wandering somewhere among tall trees and riverbanks, writing songs on whatever instrument I happen to be into at the time, or savoring something delicious like homemade chai. I also love those long, meandering hangs with a friend who shares one of my special interests, where we can happily talk about the same thing for hours and completely lose track of time.

You Don’t Have To Do It Alone

Reaching out for therapy can feel vulnerable, especially if you’ve spent much of your life learning to rely on yourself or minimize your own needs. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you begin.

I believe the parts of us that struggle, protect, disconnect, or feel stuck developed for good reasons. Rather than trying to fix or get rid of them, therapy can be a place to slow down, listen with curiosity, and begin relating to yourself in a new way.

Wherever you are in your journey, you are welcome here. I’d be honored to walk alongside you as you find your way toward greater connection with yourself, with others, and with the life you want to live.

How I Work

“We Are All Just Walking Each Other Home” - Ram Dass

I believe we all have an innate healing wisdom within us, and access to this wisdom requires deep attunement and a loving, present awareness. When trauma is present, we may need to borrow these qualities from compassionate others. These compassionate others can include safe friends, family, a partner, a pet, a therapist, you name it. Pete Walker calls this the “reparenting committee” in his book Complex PTSD: From Surviving to Thriving. What was not provided by our caretakers growing up can now be provided by the Self and other safe people in our life.

My approach to counseling is rooted in our collective humanness. I am not perfect nor have I arrived on my healing journey. I am still in process and I aim to meet you where you are in your process. The key to healing is that we don’t go it alone. Ram Dass once said, “we are all just walking each other home” and I really love this as a metaphor for therapy.

My approach is informed by Internal Family Systems (IFS), Interpersonal Neurobiology, Somatic Experiencing, and Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy. I’ve experienced the gentle, transformative potential of these approaches in my own healing journey, which has deeply shaped how I understand and approach the healing process. In our work together, I draw from these perspectives with curiosity, compassion, and respect for your own innate capacity for healing.

Who I Work With

I specialize in working with adults navigating complex trauma, emotional neglect, attachment wounds, and disconnection from self and others. My approach is relational, experiential, and trauma-informed, integrating IFS, AEDP, somatic work, and interpersonal neurobiology to help us work with both the mind and body.

I especially enjoy working with neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ folks, including those exploring or making sense of their identity later in life. I also welcome those untangling their relationship with religion or spirituality and looking for ways to reconnect with meaning on their own terms.

You don’t need to fit neatly into any of these descriptions to work with me. More than a particular diagnosis or label, I’m drawn to working with people who are curious about themselves and want to understand what lies beneath the patterns that keep them feeling stuck or disconnected.
